Year 7 Catch up Premium
Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Funding
At Round Oak School we recognise the importance of literacy and numeracy on the life chances of our pupils. We understand the problems encountered by pupils when they transition from primary education to secondary education and therefore we endeavour to ensure that this transition is smooth so that all our pupils are supported to access learning at their level and so continue their progress.
Our Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Funding will enable us to support our pupils to prepare them for life in secondary school and support them to settle into their academic life with as little disruption to their learning as possible.
What is the Catch-up Premium?
The Government has made a commitment to provide additional funding to schools for each year 7 pupil who did not achieve at least level 4 in the Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests in reading and/or mathematics. The purpose of this funding is to enable schools to deliver additional support, such as individual tuition or intensive support in small groups, for those pupils that most need it.
Purpose of the funding
Schools should assess the individual needs of each of the pupils who attract the year 7 catch-up premium to decide the best way to use the funding, and should only select programmes and approaches that they know to be effective.
Possible uses of the funding include:
Intensive small-group tuition
External services and materials
Summer schools that help students catch up over a short period of time
2014/15 - £8,000
2015/16 - £5,500
2016/17 - £10,700
